Novel in Progress

Halfway through June — and the year!

Posted on

Hello, Write Edge readers! Are you ready for this — we’re halfway through the entire year! After 2020, which seemed to crawl slower than a sloth, this year feels like it’s moving along at a clip. I’m happy and a little anxious all at the same time, only because like everyone else I’m ready for life to be completely normal again. That takes a collective effort from everyone, so please get the vaccine and encourage others to do so.

In the meantime, we’re here with our regularly-scheduled “programming.” First up, this week’s short story. Here’s a quick excerpt:

Her chest pinched tight. Stella only had snatches of memories of Ben. They’d been so far apart in age that Ben had always remained a mystery. Until the night of the accident when it felt like he was always around, always a part of their lives. Always there but never present.

In the middle of the week, you’ll get to find out what I thought of A Dark and Secret Place by Jen Williams, which I previewed this past Friday on Instagram with my #bookreviewpreview. Come back for the full review on Wednesday on The Write Edge Bookshelf!

Finally, at the end of the week, we’re going back to Instagram yet again. Find out what I’m reading for next week as well as other tidbits from my writing/non-writing life.

Oh, and an update on the novella: I’m sending back another round of edits to the publisher at Atmosphere Press. Everything is moving along on schedule. As soon as I get the go-ahead for a title and cover reveal and a release date, I’ll let you all know.

Again, find out about the vaccine and get it. Wash your hands.

Have a fantastic day and week, readers!

Book review now up!

Good morning, Write Edge readers! It’s the last day of my vacation, and while I’m a little sad about that, I’m excited to get back to my desk and start working on some of these story ideas I’ve got floating around. I’m also moving onto the next stage of publication for my novella. Every point brings me closer to doing a cover reveal and announcing a release date. I can’t wait!

In the meantime, I’m sharing a new book review with you. Today I’ve posted my thoughts on Waiting to Begin by Amanda Prowse. Here’s the opening to my post:

A woman deals with memories of the past on her birthday and a secret she’s only shared with one other person. As she goes through the day, she tries to ignore her insecurities while also grappling with the reality that her marriage may not be in the best shape. Author Amanda Prowse builds another strong character in a book that needed a little bolstering in her latest release Waiting to Begin.

Back to my desk this week…

Hello, Write Edge readers! As you may have guessed from me missing the last two Fridays of posting, I’m still on vacation. However, I get back to my desk this week. I must confess, I do miss it just a little. All the space to spread out books and my day planners and ideas.

The second best part about a vacation with family (the family being the first best part) is the rejuvenation a person experiences. I’m coming back with my creative spirit replenished, and I can’t wait to see where that takes me next.

In publishing news, I’ve sent my novella to the publisher for proofreading. Eeek! As soon as I get closer to a cover reveal and a publication date, I’ll be shouting it from the rooftops. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, we’re on to our weekly schedule. I just posted my latest short fiction. Here’s a quick excerpt for you:

She sighed. They’d gone around and around on this for the last ten days. The whole conversation just made her tired now.

“You didn’t answer my original question,” she said.

On Wednesday, I have a brand new book review for you. This week sees the release of Amanda Prowse’s newest novel Waiting to Begin. Come back in the middle of the week to find out what I thought about it. Check it out on The Write Edge Bookshelf!

Finally, on Friday, it’s Instagram — really! I’ve got a few pictures from vacation and will also update you on everything else writing (and not) from my corner of the world. Check out older posts using my handle, @EktaRGarg.

As always, readers, find out about the vaccine and get it. Wear a mask if you feel like it’s necessary. Show a stranger some kindness today.

Have a fantastic week!
