Hello! I created The Write Edge as a professional platform for my writing. This outlet lets me share with readers and potential employers my capabilities and skills as a writer while tackling subjects of interest to me. First appearing on February 1, 2010, The Write Edge has provided me the opportunity to publish my own work and keep my writing skills sharp. And I’ve had an absolute blast doing it!
For those of you who are visiting the blog for the first time, welcome! Thanks so much for taking a few minutes from your day to read my work. When I launched The Write Edge in 2010, I had no idea at the time it would grow at the rate it has. As a result the original pages I created have become blogs of their own! Each week I update content on at least two blogs, and some weeks readers enjoy three new articles. All told, there’s a little something for almost everyone here!
Following are short descriptions of the original source pages on The Write Edge where I still post excerpts of the main articles, which can be found on their blogs (the extension blog addresses are listed below.)
“A Writer’s Heartbeats”—If you want to know who I am, then read what I write—because this is where my heart beats the loudest. I have two degrees in journalism, but I’ve always enjoyed creating stories and characters. On this page I have shared my short stories and currently I’m sharing my first (and so far only :>) novel with my readers, one small piece at a time. My new working title (the third) for the novel is American Kismet, which I have spun off into a private free subscription blog at americankismet.wordpress.com. Interested readers can send me an email at egarg0201 (at) gmail (dot) com to have their names and emails added to the subscription list. Updated weekly on Mondays.
“BookEnds”—Most writers are voracious readers; I know I am. I’m always on the lookout for a great story and excellent writing, but sometimes things don’t work out that way. During the first summer of The Write Edge’s existence, I read a book that was so awful my gut reaction was, “I have to tell someone about this.” My second thought was, “Who am I going to tell?” And that was the light-bulb moment behind “BookEnds,” the page where I started reviewing books for my readers. As I read and reviewed more, however, “BookEnds” became such a large section of The Write Edge that it literally outgrew it. So now readers can check out my reviews on thewriteedgebookshelf.wordpress.com. Updated bi-weekly on Wednesdays.
“Growth Chart”—As the mother of a five-year-old and a three-year-old I’m on the run, stopping just long enough to look for help from other parents of young children. In that same regard I want my friends and readers to know I’m here to root them on and offer them moral support, so I started this page on the blog to share my adventures in parenting. (And in the interest of personal security, I identify my girls only by their ages and not their names.) As with “BookEnds,” “Growth Chart” became such an involved part of the main blog that I had no choice but to give it a new home. Find it at thewriteedgegrowthchart.wordpress.com for full Charts, Growth Spurts (short short Growth Chart adventures,) and Growth Chart Art, where I share with readers the masterpieces my mini artists produce. Updated weekly on Fridays.
“Bollywood News”—Every two weeks I compile happenings from the Hindi film industry and post it for film fans. Older news is shared in “More News” and “Even More News.” Updated biweekly on Fridays.
